The old adage there’s no such thing as free lunch was long ignored by media companies.
Newspapers and magazines have a long history of selling their products below cost or giving them away.
Newspapers traditionally used subscription fees to offset the cost of producing and delivering their products. It was break-even at best.
The biggest share of profit came from advertising. (Remember classified ads?) As media companies became hybrid companies that published in print and online, that model became unworkable after tech giants like Google and Meta swallowed up the majority of digital ad revenue.
While advertising remains by far the primary revenue generator for publications like NH Business Review, most of our peers nationwide have adopted pay structures for online access, offering only a few articles per month before requiring users to sign up.
Now we’re doing the same. To continue to produce the quality business news journalism about the Granite State our readers have come to expect, we need to find new ways to improve the bottom line.
A subscription to NH Business Review is one heck of a bargain. As we make this transition, we’ve been offering our $64 annual subscription at a 50% discount.
Here’s what you get for that $32:
- Bi-weekly NH Business Review print and digital issues 24 times a year.
- Unlimited access to all content on nhbr.com.
- Full access to our specialty publications, including the annual Book of Lists, Charitable Giving Guide and New Hampshire 200.
- Exclusive use of new, forthcoming database tools.
- 15% off tickets to all our signature events, including the Best of Business (BOB) Awards, NH 200, Outstanding Women in Business, Leadership Unscripted and more.
Expanded content
In the months ahead, we’ll be adding more features to NH Business Review, including a revamped Book of Lists feature that will include updated databases throughout the year and a quarterly economic report that will provide a snapshot of New Hampshire businesses. These analytical tools will help you make better informed business decisions.
We’ll also continue to provide in-depth news and analysis about business and the economy in the Granite State, exclusive expertise from a rotating cast of columnists and a vibrant op-ed section that provides a forum for informed debate.
All that for less than the price of lunch for two. And when you do go to lunch, you’ll have so much more to talk about.
NH Business Review is the only newspaper of its kind in the Granite State.
As news outlets have trimmed back on staffing to cut costs, business coverage has suffered. Our staff team of editors and writers, along with a growing team of experienced freelance reporters, are committed to covering the business story of New Hampshire and providing a business-to-business marketplace of ideas.
We’re open for business. We’re open for you.
