UNITIL TO PURCHASE MAINE NATURAL GAS COMPANY
Unitil Corporation (NYSE: UTL) announced earlier this month that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Maine Natural Gas Company from Avangrid Enterprises, Inc., for $86 million on a debt-free basis, subject to adjustment for closing working capital and transaction expenses.
Upon closing of the transaction, which is expected to occur by the end of this year, Maine Natural will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Unitil. The transaction is subject to approval by the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
Unitil obtained committed financing from Scotiabank to fund the purchase price, and is being advised in this transaction by Scotiabank and by the law firm of Dentons.
Started in 1999, Maine Natural Gas services approximately 6,300 residential and commercial natural gas customers in the Greater Portland region of Maine, as well as Augusta, Maine. Its gas system includes approximately 230 miles of distribution mains, and is estimated to have approximately $69 million of rate base as of December 31, 2024. Customer growth over the most recent five-year period averaged 4.4% annually.
ALBANY INTERNATIONAL PROFILED FOR WORLD ENGINEERING DAY 2025
Rochester-based Albany International Corp. (NYSE: AIN) — a developer and manufacturer of engineered components — was chosen as one of 80 companies profiled for the World Engineering Day 2025 campaign. World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2025 was launched at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters on March 4, 2025, marking the start of a year-long campaign of events, films and related articles and news.
An official International Day as proclaimed by UNESCO, WED is jointly operated by UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). This year’s theme is “Shaping our sustainable future through engineering,” highlighting the essential role that engineers and engineering have in achieving the U.N.’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs).
