ONE of the latest reports on layoffs, from ResumeTemplates, says that 1 in 5 workers fear they’ll be let go this year, with 6 in 10 feeling the U.S. will enter a recession in the next 12 months. To avoid layoffs, 9 in 10 said they would return to the office five days per week if necessary.
JUST over a quarter of Americans say the range of ages 65-69 is the best time to retire, according to the Pew Research Center. Another third say there is no best age to retire. About 2 in 10 feel the best age range is 60-64 and only 6% say age 70 or older. On average, adults feel the best age is 61.
AS tipping culture expands to professions outside food service and hairdressers, 9 in 10 Americans say tipping culture is out of control, a survey of 200 respondents in February found. Nearly 3 in 5 believe businesses are replacing employees’ salaries with tips, and 83% want automatic service charges banned.
THE share of adults worldwide being charitable decreased last year, Gallup polling data indicated after previously reporting highs between 2021-2023. In 2021, 63% of people said they helped a stranger in the past month, and 33% donated to charity. But in 2024, only 56% said they had helped a stranger within the month before, and 26% donated money. One explanation for less monetary charity may be people feeling less financially secure in 2024 than in 2023.
SINCE President Donald Trump’s second inauguration, a quarter of hiring managers say respect for women in workplaces has declined, a survey of 864 managers by ResumeBuilder.com reports. At companies that have reversed diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, 22% say there is now less focus on hiring women, and 26% report less focus on promoting women into leadership.
