The team behind the plan to redevelop a historic downtown site into much-needed housing is scheduled to make its third appearance before the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment next week.
Hampshire Development Corp. is seeking to redevelop the site at 361 Hanover St., which once was home to the Portsmouth Steam Factory and a car dealership. The development proposal calls for 40 to 48 housing units in four buildings, according to Shayne Forsley, co-owner of the company, which is developing the project with Steve Wilson.
Forsley believes the developers can take what he described as “an underutilized site” made up of a “large surface parking lot” and convert it into a “beautiful housing development.”
The site is also home to a two-story historic building, which was formerly home to the headquarters of the Heinemann Publishing Company.
