Greg Carlin and his group, Granite State Gaming and Hospitality, are promising a total transformation of the long-neglected Lilac Mall, beginning with his Lilac Club Casino, scheduled to open in February.

Changes are already evident from the outside. The parking lot, which had definitely seen better days, has been redone, and landscaping and lighting are in the works. A lot of the front facade is boarded now, and plans for the cavernous, 38,000-square-foot space inside have been laid out.

Carlin bought the mall for $5 million in 2023 with plans to create the casino that is now taking shape.

Which gambling options will be offered?Greg Carlin, executive director of Lilac Club Casino, stands outside of what will be the front of the future gambling establishment in Rochester Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2024.Carlin said the casino will include all the things one expects, a poker room, a bingo room, table games like roulette and blackjack and many gaming machines (known euphemistically as historical horse racing).

Ten spots are allowed in New Hampshire to host DraftKings Sportsbook gaming. Carlin said four spots are spoken for already. It’s not yet known if Lilac Club Casino will apply for it.
