As multiple listing services (MLS) across the country grapple with a variety of challenges, the industry’s trade group, the Council of MLSs (CMLS) is looking to a new chief operating officer to help it navigate choppy waters.
On Wednesday, CMLS announced the appointment of Rene Galicia as its new COO. Galicia will start next Monday, May 19. He has been a board member at CMLS since the start of the year.
Prior to this appointment, Galicia served as Bright MLS’ executive vice president of policy counsel and strategic partnerships. Galicia announced his departure from Bright MLS last week. In this role at Bright MLS, Galicia led support, training compliance and shareholder relations efforts, as well as policy initiatives.
He has also served as the director of MLS engagement at the National Association of Realtors (NAR), and has spent over seven years in various roles at California Regional MLS (CRMLS), the nation’s largest MLS.
The trade group believes Galicia’s experience will help him to guide CMLS’ members through a complex landscape while championing transparency, efficiency, and pro-competitive practices.
“His extensive experience in MLS policy, operational excellence, and his passion for advancing the industry make him the perfect leader to help us deliver exceptional value to our members,” Denee Evans, the CEO of CMLS, said in a statement.
In his new role at CMLS, Galicia will oversee the organization’s operations to advance the MLS.
“I am thrilled to join CMLS as Chief Operating Officer and contribute to its mission of empowering the MLS community through innovation and collaboration,” Galicia said in a statement. “I look forward to driving CMLS’s mission of fostering a healthy real estate marketplace by working with our members, partners, and staff to help shape the future of MLS.”
