A Hopkinton-based logger cleared 12 acres of trees on land near Sam’s Club and Walmart in Concord to ready it for development.
Wesley Rose, owner of Wes Rose Contract Cutting, told the city in February that he intended to cut pine and oak on the 16-acre property, which he purchased in August for $225,000, according to city records.
After stump removal and other site work wraps up, Rose plans to put the property on the market for retail development, according to Ben Nardi, a real estate broker representing Rose. That will probably be sometime in the next month, he said.
The property is beside the Sam’s Club on Sheep Davis Road and across the street from the entrance to Walmart. It’s also not far from a 48-unit affordable apartment building that was completed last fall, though Nardi said Rose had not “contemplated anything along the lines of residential” going in there.
The land is split between two zoning designations, the open space residential district and the gateway performance district, which is for “predominantly” commercial development. The Soucook River runs along the back of the property.
